Some people are going to invest their money in the wrong people…and they will realize at some point. I’ve thought a lot about what should be the right reaction to this, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a problem that will eventually solve itself. Or the people who claim to know the most about instructional design, haven’t actually worked as an instructional designer. I’ve seen so many examples of this in recent years…people with no actual experience, selling the idea that they’re going to help others accomplish the things they’ve never actually done. ![]() Just watch where you spend your money, friends, ok? ![]() To each their own, but I just can’t watch some of this stuff anymore. ![]() I have made the transition out of teaching, have been working in ID and I consider myself to be a pretty skilled resume writer and editor but even I would have a hard time charging hundreds of dollars to write people’s resumes, which I don’t even actually have time to do because, well… I’m working in ID. I respect the hustle, but you have to have the chops to back it up. It feels fake and done in bad faith, even if that’s not the intent. I’m not saying this person is bad, or that they’re even purposefully grifting. And certainly not to be charging so much money for it. But that doesn’t qualify you to be helping people get out of education and into instructional design when you haven’t worked in ID or hired for ID roles. Their portfolio is full of examples using K-12 content to show their various ID tool skills. They’ve had some valid points and solid advice. Their content is not all bad, nor would I ever imply as much.
